Celebrating 35 Years of ARRAN

By Hailey Ward

5 Min Read

From Arran Aromatics to ARRAN Sense of Scotland, we’ve been creating timeless Island-made fragrances on the Isle of Arran for 35 years.

ARRAN Aromatics to ARRAN Sense of Scotland

In 2016, we unveiled our new ARRAN Sense of Scotland brand identity. While the familiar scents that our customers loved remained unchanged, we strengthened the connection to the Isle of Arran.

We now name our bath and body collections after renowned beauty spots on the island. A simple shower with our body wash or spritz of our perfume can transport you to the dramatic Glenashdale Falls or the scenic hills of Glen Rosa.

Founded in 1989 by Janet and Ian

As a passionate advocate for skincare, Janet Russell, the founder of our company, was eager to delve into the potential of developing aesthetically pleasing and fragrant bath and body products, utilizing the mineral-rich waters of Arran.

In collaboration with her co-founder and spouse, Ian Russell, they established the manufacturing facility and retail outlet at Home Farm on the Isle of Arran. Presently, all products are produced using the pure mineral-rich waters of the island, and are meticulously crafted by a local workforce. You can read the full ARRAN story here.

Our Signature Scent -After The Rain

The After the Rain Collection has consistently held the title of our most cherished fragrance for several decades. Despite minor modifications to the bottle design over time, the essence of this fragrance has remained unchanged.

Inspired by the tranquility of a summer garden on the Isle of Arran, moments after a refreshing rain shower, our signature fragrance, After the Rain, comes to life. It’s warm and inviting aroma is enveloped in an elegant blend of floral and citrus notes, captivating the senses with its refined composition. Delight in the invigorating scent of lime and rose, seamlessly blended with a velvety sandalwood fragrance and our exclusive freshwater essence. Fragrances Old and New

We're frequently asked about the reason behind our decision to discontinue some of our beloved fragrances. The truth is, we haven't stopped making them! In 2016, in alignment with our rebranding efforts, we updated our packaging designs and the names of our products. If you're not aware of these changes, we're here to assist you.

Citrus Shores – Glenashdale

Our beloved Citrus Shores has been renamed Glenashdale, inspired by the waterfalls that bring revitalising energy to the southern hills of Arran. The scent remains unchanged with the energising zest of rasped lemons and fresh, citrus notes of grapefruit. You can shop our Glenashdale collection here.

Island Spa – Glen Iorsa

Your favourite Island Spa was rebranded to Glen Iorsa, taking inspiration from the calm serenity of a remote glen on the Isle of Arran. Our scent is still infused with lavender and spearmint blended with tiny indulgences of geranium, sage & patchouli. You can shop our Glen Iorsa collection here.

Velvet Isle - Glen Rosa

The popular Velvet Isle is now known as Glen Rosa, inspired by the vibrant summer sunsets over the lush green hills of Glen Rosa. Our untouched velvety fragrance combines the warmth of ripe, honeyed fig together with the freshness of crushed green leaves. You can shop our Glen Rosa collection here.

Bay Citrus – Lochranza

Our cherished Bay Citrus has now been renamed to Lochranza, gaining its inspiration from the beautiful windswept north of our isle. Its consistent warm fragrance is infused with a woody base of patchouli and vetiver, enhanced by the freshness of lemon and grapefruit. Earthy and enigmatic. You can shop our Lochranza collection here.

The Power of Fragrance

Have you ever found yourself walking down the street and someone walks by, wafting a scent that floods your brain and transports you to another place in time? This common occurrence has encouraged scientific research, uncovering the link between memory and scent.

The olfactory bulb in your brain is responsible for transforming smells into information that is then sent to the limbic system, where the hippocampus is waiting, ready to attach emotions and memories to these smells. This function is totally unique to smell, no other sense is as in tune with the brain as scent.

The relationship between scent and memories can live in your brain for your whole life. Smells of your parents that brought you comfort as a child, the smell of your favourite meal or smells of certain flowers can bring back both happy and sad memories, memories you never even knew were there.

There’s something special about fragrance, a scent can transport you back in time, in a way that nothing else can.
