Reducing Single-Use Plastics

By Kira Kemlo

5 Min Read

Did you know that up to 10 million plastic bottles from liquid soaps and hand sanitisers end up in UK landfills? Even with increased handwashing in recent years, that’s an astonishing amount of waste. And it doesn’t stop there—over 300 million tonnes of plastic are produced globally each year, with half of it designed for single use.

These staggering figures have driven us to rethink the way we operate.

That’s why here at ARRAN Sense of Scotland, we’ve partnered with industry leaders in sustainable packaging, embracing everything from post-consumer recycled materials to cutting-edge bioplastics. Today, all our plastic bottles are made from Prevented Ocean Plastic, stopping over 1,000 tonnes of plastic from polluting our oceans every month. Together, we’re making a difference—one bottle at a time.

What is Prevented Ocean Plastic?

This recycled plastic comes from discarded bottles collected within 50km (30 miles) of ocean coastlines or major waterways that flow into the sea. These high-risk regions, often struggling with rapid population growth or tourism, lack proper waste management and recycling incentives. As a result, ecosystems and marine life face a constant threat from plastic pollution. By repurposing this plastic, we’re not only reducing waste but actively protecting our oceans from further contamination.
