As a celebration of the important women in our lives this Mother's Day, we brought together four pairs of Mothers & Daughters for a special interview session with ARRAN. We discussed special scents that transport them to another moment in time, the perfect Mother's Day plans and the memories they share together.

Scent Memories

Taking you back to another place in time

Scent is one of the most powerful senses as it can trigger memories, both happy and sad. We asked our interviewees to tell us more about some of their favourite scent memories.

Becky and Audrey

"You used to put [cinnamon and clove scented candles] all throughout the house, then at Christmas time you can smell it and it just reminds you of home. I find myself buying them now for my home. It's like a comfort smell." - Becky

Lindsey and Sheila

"There’s a fragrance that would always remind me of you… And I smelled it the other day and it literally took me back to being about 7 years old, sitting on your bed while you were getting ready to go out for dinner and watching you do your hair and make-up, trying on all your clothes, and I was in your wardrobe trying on your shoes. That fragrance immediately makes me think of you and being a kid again." - Lindsey

"Such a summer-y fragrance! Just imagine being somewhere hot, by the sea. Little skoosh of that in the evening..."

Glen Rosa Fig & Ylang Ylang 100ml Eau de Toilette

Valerie and Arianna

"In Zambia it's very dry, so sometimes in the afternoons there would be this downpour of rain and it was a very short downpour, but when I would walk outside and that smell of fresh earth - it just takes me back to a really, really lovely time growing up there." - Valerie

"When I'd walk in the house from school and just smell the cakes that you'd been making that day, that's one that will always be in my head." - Arianna

"Totally smells like a spa"

Christina and Barbara

"My mother had a specific smell... I can't even describe it, it was a certain perfume and I remember she said she'd never been bought perfume in her life... I bought her her first real expensive bottle of perfume and then I had to keep buying it, because she kept wearing it!... Every time I smell it, even someone passing... she springs to mind." - Barbara

"This would make a lovely gift" ... "Yes, to myself"
